Rebuild an image as an editable template
You have a flat picture of a design, such as a PNG of a product post, and you want to change its words, swap its photo, and use it again. thirds.ai reads the picture, rebuilds the layout as an editable template, and applies your brand kit. This article shows how the import works, what you fix by hand afterwards, and the limits that apply.
How the import works
- Open Import image and choose your brand kit.
- Attach one PNG, JPEG, or WebP file that you have the right to use.
- Choose PDF or Image as the output, check the cost, and send the file.
- When the message says Done, open the preview and check the text, layout, branding, and numbers.
- Fix the result in the chat or the editor, then press Save template.
The AI receives the picture, your kit's name, colours, tone, and primary logo, and instructions to replace the source brand and issuer name. It builds the template, renders it, compares the render with the source, and repairs it. An import gets up to five repair reviews before it stops. The import costs 50 credits, a later message in the same chat costs 10 credits, and a later message with a new source image costs 50 credits. If the import fails, you keep the previous draft and get the reserved credits back.
The result is a rebuild, not a pixel copy. The AI places text objects, image frames, boxes, and colours so that the layout reads the same, and it uses the fonts and colours from your kit instead of the ones in the picture. Read Design and edit a template for the full studio steps.
An owned example: the Product spotlight design
The Product spotlight design in the gallery is a 1,080 by 1,080 pixel square with a green field, a two-line headline at the top, a product picture in the centre, a short caption, and a logo at the bottom. It belongs to thirds.ai, so we can use a flat export of it as a source picture.
When you import a picture like this, expect the result to come back as separate objects. The headline and the caption become text objects with {{ }} fields, so the Data panel can change them. The centre picture becomes an image frame with object-fit: contain, so a tall or wide product stays inside its area. The logo slot holds your kit's logo instead of the one in the picture, and the background takes a colour from your palette. Check every object against the source before you trust the layout.
What to fix by hand
The import gets you most of the way, and the editor finishes the job. Hand edits and the live preview cost nothing.
Text
Read every word. The AI can misread a small label, a number, or a line break. Select a text object, correct the words in the inspector, and give the object a clear field name if the value changes between uses. Keep the sample values in Data so the next export has something to show.
Spacing
Compare the object positions with the source. Nudge an object with the arrow keys, or type exact left, top, width, and height values in the inspector. Fixed objects need enough room for the longest value you plan to send, so make the headline box wide enough for a longer headline than the sample.
The replaced photo
The AI does not copy the picture from the source. It leaves an image frame with a placeholder or your kit's logo. Choose the frame, choose Image, then Upload image, and add your own product photo as a PNG, JPEG, or WebP up to 10 MiB. The frame keeps its size, and the photo fits inside it.
Fonts
The import uses your kit's fonts. Open the text objects and check the weight and size, because a display font can run wider or narrower than the one in the picture. Add the right included font or upload a WOFF2 file to your brand kit if the kit does not have the face you need.
When the result looks right, press Save template. The first save asks for a name, and each save keeps a new version. Export a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF for one credit when the render succeeds.

Corrupt, animated, and unsupported files fail before they reach the model provider, and a failed import costs nothing. Some layouts need manual repair, such as text on a curve, tight overlapping shapes, or a picture that carries most of the message. A layout with clear text blocks and flat colour comes back closest to the source.
Under the Terms of Service, you warrant that you have the rights to every source picture you upload. The import replaces the source brand and issuer name, and the draft records that AI made it. Check both before you publish. For the AI route and data handling, read Design and edit a template.
