Comparison

thirds.ai and Bannerbear

Bannerbear is an API and template editor that makes images, videos, and PDFs from a saved design. thirds.ai turns words, your own HTML, or a source image into an editable branded template, then renders that template as a PDF or a static image through the web app, the API, or MCP. This page helps you choose between the two when you need many branded images or documents from one design, and it helps you plan a move if you already use Bannerbear. thirds.ai is not affiliated with Bannerbear, and Bannerbear is a trademark of its owner.

Checked on 6 September 2026 against the sources listed at the end.

The short answer

If you need video, or you want to connect image generation to Zapier, Make, Airtable, and many other tools without code, Bannerbear is the more complete choice today, and it has a large API ecosystem with many client libraries. thirds.ai fits better when your design starts as HTML or as words in a chat, when you want PDFs and images at the same price per file, and when you want to import a source image and rebuild it as an editable template. Both tools have a visual editor, an API, an MCP server, and a free way to try them, so the best test is to build one of your real templates in each.

What thirds.ai does not do

  • It does not make video or animated GIF output.
  • It does not have Zapier, Make, or Airtable integrations.
  • It does not offer a public template library in the same way; our gallery holds thirds.ai templates that you copy into your account.
  • It does not offer AVIF output, face detection, or background removal tools.

What Bannerbear does not do

  • It does not take HTML as an input on the pages we read, so an existing HTML design must be rebuilt in its editor (our reading).
  • It does not rebuild a source image as an editable template on the pages we read (our reading).
  • It does not allow overage. You must upgrade when you reach your monthly credits (vendor claim).
  • It charges three credits for a PDF, so documents cost more than images (vendor claim).

Pricing assumptions

  • We read both pricing pages on 6 September 2026. Prices can change, so check the Bannerbear pricing page and our pricing page before you decide.
  • One thirds.ai credit is one successful PDF of up to 100 pages or one successful image. Failed renders cost nothing. See credits and billing.
  • One Bannerbear credit is one image up to 3000 by 3000 pixels, and a PDF costs three credits (vendor claim). Video uses a different formula, so we do not compare video prices.
  • We compare the monthly price of each entry paid plan. thirds.ai also offers a yearly price with a discount. Bannerbear shows monthly prices on its pricing page.
  • Bannerbear's free trial gives 30 credits once. The thirds.ai free plan gives 25 credits every month.

Moving from Bannerbear

Both APIs fill a saved template with data, so the request shape is close. Bannerbear sends a template uid and a modifications list where each entry names a layer and sets its text, colour, or image. thirds.ai sends a template ID and a data object whose keys match the Jinja fields in the template, and the API checks the data against the template's schema before it renders. Bannerbear returns 202 Accepted and you poll or use a webhook; thirds.ai also creates a job and gives you a download link when the job succeeds.

Rebuild each template once in the template editor, or paste your HTML and let the AI place the fields. Then follow Use templates with your data to map your old modifications to template data. Move one template at a time and compare the output before you move the next.
