It takes a couple of minutes. You need one key from your thirds.ai account. VS Code asks for it the first time the server starts, hides it as you type, and keeps it, so it never sits in your mcp.json file. Use a local chat session, because VS Code doesn't pass a server that asks for your key to Agent Host sessions (checked 11 October 2026).

On your thirds.ai API keys page, click Create a key, then Create key, and copy the key.

Run MCP: Open User Configuration and add the thirds server to mcp.json, as the setup guide shows.

Run MCP: List Servers, start thirds, and enter your key when VS Code asks.

Open Chat, pick Agent, turn on the thirds tools with Configure Tools, and paste a prompt from this page.
It makes them. Copilot fills a designer-made template in your brand with your details, and you get a new PDF, PNG, JPEG, or WebP file. If you want Copilot to search the text of PDFs you already have, that's a job for a PDF reader server, not this one.
Do I need a paid Copilot plan?
No. GitHub's plans page lists agent mode and MCP under Copilot Free (checked 11 October 2026). On a Copilot Business or Enterprise account, an admin turns on the MCP servers in Copilot policy first.
What does each file cost?
Each finished PDF or image costs one credit, and a file that fails costs nothing, so you can fix the details and try again. A free thirds.ai account gets 50 credits a month with no card.
Does this work in Agent Host sessions?
Not with this setup. VS Code's docs say it doesn't forward a server that asks for input, such as your key, to Agent Host (checked 11 October 2026). Open a local chat session instead.
Will my key appear in mcp.json?
No. VS Code asks for the key the first time the server starts and keeps it itself, so mcp.json never holds it. So you can also put the server in your project's .vscode/mcp.json and commit it, and each person on the team enters their own key.
Can I make a report for each customer?
Yes. Give Copilot the list, and it makes a report for every customer in one go, each with that customer's figures. Check the first one before you make the whole list.
Can my app make these files on its own, without Copilot?
Yes. The REST API makes files from the same saved designs, so your app can make a report for each customer or a share image for each new page. Ask Copilot to write the call for you, or read the API docs.
On its own, VS Code / GitHub Copilot draws something new every time, so your logo, colours, and layout shift from one file to the next. Pick a designer-made template, add your logo and colours once, then ask VS Code / GitHub Copilot for the next file, and it builds it from that same design, so every file looks premium.
